AnySim iPhone Unlocking Guide (with images coming shortly)

WARNING: THIS GUIDE SHOULD BE USED AT YOUR OWN RISK. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THIS MAY CAUSE THE IPHONE. UNLOCKING THE IPHONE WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY. THIS PROCEDURE IS INTENDED FOR ADVANCE COMPUTER USERS. IF YOU DON’T LIKE COMPUTERS DO NOT TRY UNLOCKING YOUR PHONE.

Files Needed:

iBrickr – Client to break activation (www.iBrickr.com)

anysim – PXL file to install on iPhone (google anysim)

PACAY – used to enable YouTube support. (google PACAY)

All files should be downloaded and extracted in iBrickr folder. I placed them on my desktop.

Before you begin: it is assumed you have unboxed the iPhone and has been charged

1. Open iBrickr
2. Connect iPhone to PC
3. iBrickr will check if the iPhone has right version of firmware
4. Follow the on screen instructions
5. If that fails do this:
a. Plug your phone in / dock it, and turn it off
b. Power it on
c. While the grey apple appears, press and hold both the power and home buttons until a Yellow triangle sign appears and says "Please connect to iTunes"
d. iTunes will pop up talking about restoring your phone. Select restore, and once it starts downloading unplug the phone, then press and hold power and home buttons again, until the phone restarts
e. Wait for the restore to fail in iTunes, and then start up iBrickr again.
6. Once you get this down, iBrickr will walk you through the next steps
7. Once Completed. Exit iBrickr
8. Go to the PACAY folder within iBrickr folder and run the "(CLICK HERE) activate.bat" file. This will enable YouTube. Follow the on screen instructions.
9. Once you complete PACAY make sure you follow the instructions and have restarted.
10. Open iBrickr click applications and let it install the PXL service. Follow onscreen instructions in the iBrickr program.
11. After you have rebooted the phone one final time, select Check PXL. This will verify the installation of PXL.
12. Close iBrickr and reopen it. Click Application -> Install from PXL or Browse Application (Browsing is the best way use the latest version of anysim – the first release of anysim had a bug – but still successfully unlocked the phone)
13. If you selected install from file, select th anysim.pxl file. If you selected browse, select AnySim
14. The installation will be quick.
15. Navigate on you iPhone and go to Settings -> General -> auto lock. Set the setting to never.
16. Hit the home key. Click on the AnySim icon to start the unlock.
17. Agree to the disclaimer. (Again stating use at your own risk)
18. AnySim will take 15-20 minutes to unlock the phone.
19. I used the first release of anysim which had the bug. It will successfully patch the phone but state it failed to unlock. Insert a sim card and place a call. If you can successful place a class that means the unlock worked.
20. Many people have asked about removing the AnySim program. You can do that from iBrickr

Palm Centro Announced Tomorrow?

Sources across the internet have said Palm Centro will be announced on Sept 12. The phone looks a lot smaller then most treo's the U.S has seen. I do look forward to getting my hands on it once it is released. I was one of the first ones to get Motorola Q, which was a big disappointment. I am a former user of the Palm Treo 650 which i was extremely satisfied with. Hopefully Centro is as impressive as it looks.

New images of the new Palm Treo 500 phone has surfaced. The phone looks very similar to the Centro phone. This phone will be only offered for now overseas. This phone isn't too exciting no touch screen but does use the familiar 320x240 format for Windows Mobile. Basically similar to the Moto Q and BlackJack running Windows Mobile. Should be announced tomorrow at Palm scheduled presentation. Centro will also be announced.

As you know this blog has been idle for over 3 months now. Thinking that it was the summer I thought I would get more posts up but I didn't. I hope to start blogging once again. If I am able to blog at least a few post a day, I will look at other resources to improve the blog. But as it stands now posts will continue to be limited.

Palm announced on May 30th that they will be releasing a laptop. They claim it is a companion for your palm. It will be offered for only 499 and will run its own simplified OS. It will have limited functionality and its true purpose will be to assist your palm. I think do we really need another laptop? This is great idea but it should probably be packaged with the palm if it really wants to be seller. You will be able to do everything you are able to do on your phone basically. Release date has not been announced but you can join their mailing list.

Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2

Microsoft release Virtual Server 2005 R2 beta version was release a while back. It has a nice web interface which allows to access all your virtual systems on the server. You can test drive it yourself at Microsoft. Virtual Server is more flexible then Virtual PC 2004. You have the ability to create a larger virtual hard disk up to 127 GB. A big upgrade from the 16 GB that was offered in VPC 2004. A new addition to the Virtual Server website is downloading virtual Hard drives from their website. This will save the time of creating a virtual machine from scratch. There is also the addition of creating virtual network enabling you to put virtual machines on that network. Virtual server is great addition to the Microsoft Line up and should work well with a Windows server 2003. This is an important release for me while majority of my tested beta version are done on a virtual PC. I really like the web server interface and allowing me to take remote control right from the site. But even with my 2 GB's of ram I felt Virtual Server lag a bit more then using VMServer. Which is available for free.

Verdict: Definitely worth testing out Virtual Server since the recent addition of down-loadable virtual hard disks.

Sprint Motorola Q Available

Sprint has finally released the Motorola Q. It is posted on the Sprint PCS website. You can get the phone for 199.99 after rebates and with a new contract or purchase it for your current plan for a whopping 449. I say wait a month should be on Ebay for around 200 soon. Or should you wait till the iPhone comes out with Cingular. I highly doubt any rebates will be offered for that phone.

iPhone is truely amazing

Job's started the press conference at about 11am central time. My speculation were some right.
He started by announcing that Apple will be working with Intel to release new processors for the system monthly. Then as expected he presented iTV which has been renamed to Apple TV.

But the big news is the iPhone. It is really big news. Its pratcally a smart phone, and iPod put together. It sports a 8GB hard drive, touch screen, bluetooth, wifi and edge, quality iPod audio, oh yea can't forget its running OS X on it.

So how much does this all cost?

Pretty expensive but hopefully some rebates will help this deal.
$499 for 4GB
$599 for 8GB

There is speculation that Apple with introduce the iPod Phone today. There are several fake images on the internet but not confirmation what the iPod phone looks like. There is confirmation that IPod phone will be in service by Cingular.

Steve Jobs is also expected to release something that will totally blow everyone away with an interesting message on the Apple website. 'The first 30 years was just the beganning.' This is my prediction what will be release today is iTV, iPod Phone, and maybe a tablet mac.

To fit the styles of the new Microsoft Office 2007. Microsoft has revamped the office online website. They tried to go after easier navigation and better search results. The site retrieves templates that are useful for everyday work but many of the new templates are only available for Office 2007. On the website there is a link for you to try the new 2007 suite for 30 days. Definitely worth the upgrade but expensive.

On December 14 2006 Microsoft unveiled the new microsoft.com. The homepage changed to a web 2.0 dynamic website. Featuring functionality similar to other web 2.0 sites using Ajax. The site looks great now they need to update all connecting sites. Since Google and apple have been threatening Microsoft with new sleeker products, Microsoft has reacted releasing new software and upgrades faster. Don't expect Microsoft to go down without a fight.

Buy.com finally has revamped their website. It was much needed. Their new site features easier navigation and better search results. There is also better product specification. They have done an excellent job revamping the site. Buy.com is Amazon competitor but unlike Amazon, it has advertisements to sites outside of buy.com.

Firefox 2.0 - 2 Million Downloads in 24 hours

Yea thats right, Firefox has been downloaded 2 million times in 24 hours of its release. Microsoft was bragging about its 3 million downloads in a span of 4 days. FireFox was topping out at more than 30 downloads per second now thats crazy. I have used IE 7 Beta and I really hated it, it was like a totally new browser. I'm off to downloaded the new FireFox. Microsoft to offer Vista Coupon

For all you worried about buying a PC without the latest operating system no longer have to worry. Microsoft has said that it will offer a Vista upgrade coupon that will allow anyone that purchases a PC/laptop in the upcoming month to upgrade to Vista for free or a discounted price (determine by the PC manufacture). This is an excellent move for Microsoft and will help PC makers while the holiday season is right around the corner. Expected release of Vista is January 2007, the date is not finalized.

Looks like Mark Zuckerberg has finally decided to sell Facebook for 1 billion dollars. He refused to sell it last year for 750 million. Similar site, Myspace sold for 580 million just last year. Microsoft and Viacom had expressed interest in the popular website.

There are two new sites I found that offer large amounts of storage online. Mediamax and AOL's XDrive. AOL's purchase of xdrive.com features 5 GB of free online storage space. You can go to their site and log on with your AOL or AOL AIM screen name, or even create a new user name. So how can they give you free storage, well of course advertisements. They also offer a 50GB plan which is $9.95 per month or $99.95 yearly. Also some neat features it has is a built in personally music player, some photo features and allows you to setup automatic backups. XDrive also features a down loadable desktop application which allow your PC to map to it (like a network drive). A question that is posed is, is your data safe with AOL with you files? (referring back to AOL publicizing what users searched on their AOL search engine)

Mediamax also has similar functionality to XDrive but offers a whopping 25 GB's for free. It does have a few constraints, you can only download or share 1 GB/month and send files up to only 25 MB in size. They also have paid services. For 4.99/month (or 44.95 annually) you get 100GB of online storage, download/share 10GB/month and the ability to send files of any size. The Elite Plan gives you 250 GB and download/share 25 GB/month, for 9.95 month (or 89.95 annually). The last play they offer is Professional, which is 29.95 monthly (289.95 annually). This plan gives you 1 Terabyte (1000GB). It also is packaged with video playback, photo viewing, and built in music player.MediaMax File Manager

You can always settle for a personal hard drive and share it on your network and have available remotely, but to avoid that hassle these are free solutions to also consider. XDrive didn't mention any download/sharing restrictions. I liked XDrive's interface better too, but you can't go wrong with MediaMax's 25GB of space.

Google recently purchased Writely in there continuing efforts to make office type applications available to everyone via the Internet. Writely is like Google Spreadsheets but appears to have progress much further in features. It has all the basic features that anyone would need to word process. I really liked the auto save feature (Office 2003 - sometimes lags when it auto saves) Writely Autosave is quick and doesn't affect the performance. So I actually typed this in writely. I also liked the fact how you could publish to your blog. While I am on blogger and Google own both products I think the post worked well. I didn't have a chance to test with another blog entry on Writely! The spell check is pretty accurate but said 'Writely' and 'Google' were misspelled. Just like MS Word you can use the right click button almost anywhere on the text area. You can save the file in popular formats such as MS Word, Open Office, and even PDF. Visit Writely to test drive the web application for yourself. Writely beta is 62% complete, I will post updates as they become available.

New Look to Yahoo Mail

Yahoo Mail just got a little bit better. The new beta version of Yahoo Mail sports a similar layout to Microsoft's Outlook. With a navigation pane on the left, index pane in the middle top and a View of the current message pane on the middle bottom of the page. You will also notice a full advertisement on the right hand side. As you can see in the picture the layout is sleek, eye popping and will be able to compete with Microsoft Hotmail live mail and as well as GMail.
While it is in beta testing you really just can read and compose mails, the options page will shoot you back to the original mail site.

Google released their own version of PayPal called Google Checkout. It is very similar to PayPal. You can use it at merchants that accept payment through Google Checkout. EBay, owning company of PayPal said they wouldn't accept Google Checkout as a form of payment. The site is similar to another other checkout platform, its easy to use, and for now many merchants are offering $10 dollars off if you use Google Checkout. Zone Alarm True Vector Service Issue

ZoneAlarm Internet Security is known to have its issues when it comes to uppdating the program or reinstalling. When installing ZoneAlarm install program gives a prompt that states. "ZoneAlarm can not log into True Vector Service. Please shutdown this service." With extensive playing around I found out that one file had to be deleted or renamed. I overcame the file vsmon.exe. That file is the True Vector service. You need to either delete that file or rename the file. You can do a simple search for the file or find it yourself in the Windows\system32\ZoneLab

Now like Yahoo Photo's you can upload your photo's to Google! Right now it is in beta testing. You can either upload through the Google Picasa Web Album or through Picasa 2 beta. The down fall is that they only offer 250 mb of space. Comparing to Yahoo where it is unlimited.
They nice thing is you can upload at the best quality or a smaller sized quality for faster loading. You can sign up for beta testing here. You must have a Gmail account to sign up. I will upload new images as they become available.

Google Spreadsheet Newest of Google Lab Collection

The newest part of Google Labs collection is now offering limited testing. Google Spreadsheet - Will allow users to create spreadsheet online. You can also save your spreadsheets and share spreadsheets with other users. Google is offering a limited testing phase which means you have to sign up and if you lucky you might get a chance to check it out. A online office would be very neat. Never have to worry about transferring files and carrying flash drives around. If this works as well as it sounds, watch out Microsoft. Check out the tour.

Windows Vista Hype

The hype of Windows Vista has been buzzing, but when exactly will it come out. I took the time to have my own first look at it. I didn't install it on its own fresh hard drive. Instead used Virtual PC.

The installation of Vista on Virtual PC wasn't as it easy as I thought it would be.
